Eaten to Extinction
The pangolin's biggest threat is the fact that they are so unique. Pangolins are poached for their scales that are used for medicinal purposes that have no scientific backing.
Their meat is of high delicacy in China and Vietnam. The pangolin has been moved to a Vulnerable status on the IUCN, International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources, Red List. This move from a lower threat status to a higher threat status signifies the impact of how dangerous this is to the existence of the pangolin. Pangolin Trafficking
We as humans are the pangolin's only real threat. The pangolin is virtually invincible in the wild. Due to their scales and the fact that when they feel threatened they can curl themselves up into an armored ball that is essentially impenetrable. The chart to the right shows the price of a pangolin's worth (per kilo) to all of its threatening enemies, us. According to a CNN article, "By the most conservative estimates, 10,000 pangolins are trafficked illegally each year".
